PAUL FULLER
INDEPENDENT
ISLE OF WIGHT COUNCILLOR FOR COWES WEST AND
GURNARD
PUTTING YOUR
NEEDS FIRST
Isle of Wight Council Elections, 7am - 10pm,
Thursday 4th May.
Isle of Wight Community Club, Park Road, Cowes. (Cowes West).
Gurnard Village Hall, Westbrook Lane, (off Worsley Road) Gurnard. (Gurnard).
Politicians are
renowned for making promises at election time, and not always living up to
expectations…
The reason I am
seeking re-election, is because I thoroughly love what I do, and because I
enjoy this ‘work’ I hope it shows, and I’m achieving the right outcomes for our
community.
Each election time I
maintain my three promises, those being:
·
That
I will be hardworking.
·
That
I will be visible and accessible.
·
That
I will always put the needs of our community first.
Since being your Isle
of Wight Councillor, I have continued to feedback and listen to residents, and
pre-empted several issues before these caused concern. Examples include
reporting loss and changes to Isle of Wight Council and other public services,
road closures and planning applications where I have encouraged applicants to
liaise prior to formal consultations.
With recent
reductions of Government support through funding, this has meant that local
councillors have had to step up to do more to campaign for our most valuable
services.
In the last eight
years, I’ve continued to take a leading ‘hands-on’ and positive approach in
resolving issues for residents. To catch
up with monthly reports and the diversity of activities and campaigns that I’ve
been tackling on your behalf, please visit paulfullercc.blogspot.com!
With over 20 years’ experience as a
Councillor and active participation in most areas of the local authorities work,
I consider it even more important for local residents to retain their voice
given our priorities to make Cowes and Gurnard even better.
In the coming weeks
you have the opportunity to vote for an Isle of Wight Councillor trusted to
serve our community for the next four years.
If I am privileged to be re-elected, I promise to continue as a
committed, hardworking, and enthusiastic Councillor who represents our
community’s views in County Hall, rather than County Hall’s views in our
community.
Please vote to
re-elect PAUL
FULLER, INDEPENDENT on
Thursday 4th May!
Yours,
Paul Fuller, JP,CC.
About Me.
ü I am 48, married to Karen and have two
children. Raised in Gurnard, I attended local schools and returned to Cowes because
I wanted to give my family the same opportunities I had growing up.
Experience.
ü I have 14 years’ experience as an
Independent Isle of Wight Councillor, and have represented our Cowes and
Gurnard community since 2009. I care passionately about our community and have
spent my successive terms as Councillor building up trust with residents and
stakeholders.
ü I’ve been a local Town/ Parish
Councillor, actively serving Cowes, Gurnard and Northwood local Councils since
2001. I’m the only Isle of Wight Council
candidate for Cowes West and Gurnard with a proven track record serving all local
Councils.
ü I am the only candidate seeking
election to the IW Council to show an interest and be nominated and elected to
serve both Cowes Town Council and Gurnard Parish Council until 2021.
ü My experience as an IW Councillor is
broad serving issues related to Planning, Highways, Waste, Social Care,
Children, Economy, Environment, Education, Community Engagement, Licensing,
Flood Defence, Coastal Protection, Parks, Beaches, Rights Of Way, Fire and
Public Protection.
ü I serve as a Trustee for both the
Footprint Trust which supports residents in fuel poverty and am a serving
Justice Of The Peace.
Accessibility.
ü I’m contactable 24 hours a day, 365
days a year. I aim to respond to ‘local’ calls within 12 hours.
ü I’m happy to meet residents at their
convenience- not mine!
ü I am the only Isle of Wight Councillor
to hold regular surgeries. These are held in up to 8 different venues each
month throughout Cowes and Gurnard.
ü Last year I held 89 surgeries,
supporting over 300 requests.
ü Last year I relayed and resolved nearly
1,000 different enquiries and requests.
Independence: Putting you first.
ü I take my lead from what residents tell
me, not from a party line. As I have no
activists, sponsors or businesses shadowing me, my loyalty to represent our
community first is absolute.
ü As I have no political party or
baggage to hide behind. If I get things
wrong, I take responsibility.
ü Unlike some ‘party-political’
candidates, I have not been parachuted in to make up the numbers.
ü Residents & stakeholders tell me
they prefer to work with me, because I show political neutrality.
Transparency.
ü I write and deliver localised
newsletters and listen to feedback from residents affected by issues.
ü I provide monthly reports for
magazines. These are posted on paulfullercc.blogspot.com.
ü My Annual Report is delivered to households
each year. I’m the only IW Councillor that does this.
ü If things go wrong (as inevitably they
do from time to time), I will ensure that a full explanation is provided to
those affected.
Enthusiasm.
ü I’ve attended more IW Council summoned
meetings since 2009 than any other Councillor.
ü I’ve attend the duration of most
Gurnard Parish Council and Cowes Town Council monthly Meetings. This allows me
to relay residents’ concerns and informs me of local issues I may miss.
ü I canvass opinions thoroughly and
every four years I door-step every household.
ü I do this because I enjoy it. I hope
this shows and I am achieving the right outcomes!
Inclusiveness.
ü I’ve built a strong network of
residents supporting me with knowledge, skills & expertise.
ü I
have 25 years’ experience working alongside Council Officers, businesses,
community groups & outside bodies. I enjoy a positive relationship with our
MP, and Councillors from all backgrounds.
ü Due
to what I’ve learnt and from my experiences as your Councillor, I’ve pre-empted
a number of issues before they become a problem. By resolving these swiftly
reduces potential upset!
My Promise:
ü To be an effective, visible &
hardworking Councillor. If re-elected I promise to continue representing our
community in County Hall, rather than County Hall in our community.
ü As your Councillor, I will continue to
be conscientious and ‘hands-on’ fighting for our community, wherever and
whenever necessary. Despite needing to fight even harder under current
restraints, for me it is important to do what is necessary for our Councils to
say ‘Yes’, rather than ‘No’.
